There is a lane near Bisterne Close called Dragon Lane. This was named after the Bisterne Dragon which lived in the earthworks of Burley Beacon. The dragon demanded a pail of milk each day from the local milkmaids until one day a knight happened by with his two dogs. After a fearsome battle the dragon and the dogs lay dead, however the knight was also mortally wounded in the combat.
