A 15th Century legend has it that on the 26th September 1449 a black Suffolk Dragon from Kedington Hill, and a red Essex Dragon (actually black with crimson mottling on its scales) from Ballingdon Hill fought in a marshy meadow called Sharpfight Meadow (apparently also known as Button Bit), next to the river Stour. After an hour the Essex Dragon triumphed, but both returned home to their admirers.
