A nearby hill was reputed to be the resting place for a dragon.

That part of Wormshill is also an area of Ancient woodland where many flint tools have been found.

The name of the village is probably derived from Anglo-Saxon 'Woden's Hill' due to the 'heathen' King of Kent worshipping the pagan gods on the hill.
